Nearly a dozen Deschutes County Sheriff's Search and Rescue volunteers responded shortly after 11:15 a.m. Tuesday to help two hikers with medical issues on the Chush Falls trail south of Sisters—one hiker returned on his own while the other was carried on a wheeled litter to the trailhead as part of a multi-agency rescue involving the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District and the U.S. Forest Service.
El Sancho Taco Shop reopened its eastside location on DeKalb Avenue near Third Street—more than a year after a kitchen fire caused over $250,000 in damage.

The Oregon Coast was under a tsunami advisory on Tuesday night after an 8.8-magnitude quake hit Russia’s Far East—officials warned people to leave beaches and marinas as waves were expected around 11:40 p.m. local time.

Deschutes County appointed veteran DCSO captain Ty Rupert interim sheriff on July 29 to lead the agency through the 2026 election cycle—he will be sworn in on July 31 and start work on August 1 while planning to run for sheriff next May.
