James Michael Miller moved into a 96-square-foot safe parking shelter last week in midtown Bend—he said the private space is a welcome change after years in a crowded shelter.
City officials and local nonprofit partners are expanding safe parking options by adding more units, including a county-approved site near U.S. Highway 20 that may open soon.
Nearly 2,000 Pacific Power customers in northern Bend lost power Thursday afternoon due to enhanced safety settings, and crews investigated the outage in the 97701 and 97703 ZIP codes.
Most customers had power restored by about 5 p.m. although 265 remained without power despite an initial estimate for full restoration by 6 p.m.
