- ➤ James Michael Miller moved into a 96-square-foot safe parking shelter last week in midtown Bend—he said the private space is a welcome change after years in a crowded shelter. City officials and local nonprofit partners are expanding safe parking options by adding more units, including a county-approved site near U.S. Highway 20 that may open soon. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Nearly 2,000 Pacific Power customers in northern Bend lost power Thursday afternoon due to enhanced safety settings, and crews investigated the outage in the 97701 and 97703 ZIP codes. Most customers had power restored by about 5 p.m. although 265 remained without power despite an initial estimate for full restoration by 6 p.m. KTVZ

- ➤ On a recent episode of Bend Don't Break, host Aaron Switzer interviewed Sherman Bloomer—Chancellor and Dean at OSU-Cascades—who has many years of experience in higher education. He discussed his work at Boston University and Duke and shared ideas about the future growth of OSU-Cascades and its students. Source Weekly

- ➤ A 2,500-acre wildfire is burning along the John Day River near Cottonwood Canyon State Park with no containment—fire crews and helicopters are working to suppress the blaze while boaters are advised to steer clear of the active area. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ The wooden lookout on Iron Mountain offers a 360-degree view of the Central Cascades and a display of wildflowers during their peak mid-June to mid-July season—visitors must have a Northwest Forest Pass to access the trail and parking near the summit. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Central Oregon firefighters battled 24 wildfires since Tuesday after over 5,100 lightning strikes hit the area. They are working to contain the Sage Hollow fire, which burned 8.8 acres and reached 75% containment, and the Ferry fire, which burned 5,000 acres—evacuations are in place and Highway 206 is closed near Cottonwood Canyon State Park. - ➤ McKenzie Pass Highway will reopen to all traffic on Monday, June 16 after its winter closure as crews complete cleanups and repairs, and ODOT reminds drivers that the steep, narrow road remains subject to late-season maintenance plus extra caution is advised. Central Oregon Daily
