Mr. Kaplan (Uruguay, 2014, 98 min) — Directed by Álvaro Brechner. Jacob Kaplan, a 76-year-old Jewish man who fled Nazi Europe and rebuilt his life in Uruguay, feels he never accomplished anything truly great. Convinced that a mysterious old man in town is actually a fugitive Nazi war criminal, he teams up with a retired policeman for one last adventure to catch him. A bittersweet comedy about aging, identity, and the need to feel useful. It was Uruguay's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, received 7 Platino Award nominations (including Best Film), and a Goya nomination for Best Ibero-American Film. The Hollywood Reporter called it "probably the best Uruguayan film ever made."
