About this event
Learn the negative and positive emotional, cognitive, and physiological effects on your brain and body when experiencing the stress response. The stress response has a profound impact on mental health and may include symptoms of depression, anxiety, and overall decreased life satisfaction. Learn about your biology, start to listen to emotions, sensations, and important messages your body is communicating with you. The intention is to help you cultivate appreciation and gratitude for your nervous system and to start to introduce basic stress management techniques. Select groups may integrate elements of simple movement to improve feelings of calm, focus, empowerment, and confidence.
Each group has a different focus area, for example:
Week 1: General introduction and overview of the stress response- discussing physiological, cognitive, emotional, and potential spiritual effects on the whole body system.
Week 2: How to notice specific triggers- how to identify and manage primary triggers when they arise, having an impact on thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Week 3: Mindfulness Skills for Emotional Regulation- general introduction to various approaches, options, and techniques.
Week 4: Introduce Somatic/Body based practices for Emotional Regulation - when stress, anxiety, and/or depressive symptoms may arise.
*Only for ages 24+
