COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Mild winter weather is keeping construction on track in Bend, with crews repairing roads and advancing work at Redmond Airport — including a new shipping container walkway. The airport project is expected to finish before the end of 2027. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Monkless Belgian Ales is collecting new, unwrapped dog toys for Humane Society dogs to brighten their holiday season. Donations can be dropped off through Dec. 22 at the Monkless Brasserie on 803 SW Industrial Way in Bend. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ The Longest Night vigils will take place on Dec. 21 to honor those who died while homeless. One event will be held at 8 a.m. at Bethlehem Inn’s Redmond shelter and another at 5 p.m. at Drake Park, where community members will gather to share memories. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Youth scout troops will pick up Christmas trees for recycling from Bend residents on the weekends of Dec. 27-28 and Jan. 3-4. Residents should leave their trees curbside by 8 a.m. while scouts also request a donation of 13 dollars to support troop activities. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Authorities suspended recovery operations for 26-year-old Bend climber Matthew Aldridge after his search near Pea Gravel Ridge on Mt. Hood was halted by worsening weather + his partners reported him missing on Saturday when he continued climbing alone from Mt. Hood Meadows. KTVZ

- ➤ Cascades East Transit will reintroduce bus fares on Feb. 1 for all fixed and flex routes; riders will pay $2 per trip with daily, monthly, and annual pass options, and transit demos will be held in libraries in Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and Warm Springs in January. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ The Oregon OSHA will hold a two-day safety training conference for construction workers at the Riverhouse Lodge Convention Center on Jan. 26-27. The summit will offer OSHA 10-hour training, work zone safety courses plus first-responder training with certification options. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ At Westview High School on Saturday, Dec. 13, Bend’s Leif Larwin won the Rose City Championships with a 17 to 0 tech fall against Cross Rodriguez and celebrated with his iconic headgear swing. - ➤ Summit's boys basketball team is off to a strong start with seniors Matthew Tompkins and Forest Kettering averaging nearly 20 points, including a 67-65 home opener win over Churchill.
