COMMUNITY NEWS

  • KIDS Center has launched its Hope for the Holidays Toy and Gift Card Drive to collect toys and gift cards for children and families affected by abuse and will serve 500 local residents with donations accepted until Dec. 15. Donations can be made online or dropped off in person at 1375 NW Kingston Ave (business hours Monday–Friday 8 am–5 pm) (drop box near the front door).  Central Oregon Daily
  • Hoodoo’s Wintervention Tour came to Bend on Tuesday night at Sunriver Brewing’s East Pub+ locals joined games, bingo and a raffle for Hoodoo swag and lift tickets while the tour gave away over $100,000 in prizes. The events will run through Dec. 30 in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Eugene, Lebanon and Albany.  Central Oregon Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • More than 25 downtown Bend businesses will raffle over $3,500 in prizes on Saturday to encourage local shopping for the holidays. Shoppers can submit receipts from visits between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.—if their name is drawn while present, they can pick a prize.  Central Oregon Daily

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Oregon ski areas face higher prices this season as high insurance costs force resorts to raise lift tickets to as much as $170 and season passes to up to $1,249—resorts wait for more snow to open with Mt. Bachelor set to open tomorrow and others planning flexible dates. Low snowfall keeps many areas in a holding pattern as they work to start limited operations.  The Oregonian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, host Aaron Switzer interviewed Dr. Greg Pereira, the new president of Central Oregon Community College, on the Bend Don't Break podcast. He discussed his journey from Clackamas, his work in homeless shelters and nonprofit groups, and his plans to make the college a top choice for local students.  Source Weekly
  • Kindergartners at R.E. Jewell Elementary in Bend mixed pumpkin puree, vanilla pudding, cinnamon and graham cracker crumbs to make a no-bake pumpkin pie on the last day before Thanksgiving break—teacher Amy Huckins then asked them what they were thankful for.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since Nov. 17, a BP pipeline that supplies 90 percent of Oregon’s fuel was shut down because of a leak—Gov. Tina Kotek declared a state of emergency that will last through Dec. 24 while BP officials said the pipeline has been partially restarted.  Bend Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • Alex Bradley is walking from Austin to Oregon to raise funding and awareness for mental health support—he started his journey after losing his best friend AJ and will arrive in Bend on Nov. 30 before finishing in Oregon City.  KTVZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Connor Conneely, the Summit senior star, will lead his team in the Class 5A state championship game against Silverton at Hillsboro Stadium on Friday at 5 p.m.—he has made big plays on both offense and defense to help win key games this season.  Bend Bulletin
  • Area skateboarders celebrated the opening of a 6,000-square-foot skatepark at Culver City Park, which debuted last October—featuring quarter pipes, rails, and mixed concrete and brick surfaces. The park adds to a growing network of local skate spots, as nearby Madras, Warm Springs, and Bend offer additional places to skate.  Bend Bulletin
