COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is asking for donations to help fund its Shop with a Cop program that will benefit local children in need, with shopping events planned on December 2 at Redmond Walmart and December 3 through 4 at Bend Walmart— the program has raised over $18,000 and aims to reach $50,000.  Central Oregon Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Breeze Airways canceled its planned flights between Redmond and Burbank before they began, as confirmed by the Redmond Airport on Friday. The airline will launch its flights from Redmond to Las Vegas in mid-March—ensuring continued service in the region.  Bend Bulletin
  • Entrepreneur Merrideth Lindsey has opened Bend Roots Mercantile — Bend’s first co-op that brings together local makers to sell handcrafted goods from a 300-square-foot shop on the east side. The store will host a grand opening sale from Nov. 28 through Nov. 30 with giveaways and deals on holiday and everyday items.  Bend Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • Camp Fire Central Oregon earned the Culture of Safety Award from Camp Fire’s national headquarters at the 2025 National Leadership Conference — it was one of six affiliates chosen from 44 candidates across 24 states. The honor recognizes the group’s commitment to safe youth programs and staff training, marking its second national award in three years.  KTVZ
  • On a Bend Don’t Break episode, host Aaron Switzer interviewed Todd Dunkelberg—director of Deschutes Public Library—who discussed his journey from studying library science to leading modern projects like makerspaces, 3D printing, and digital learning in Central Oregon. Dunkelberg explained how a viral TikTok video has boosted attention to his innovative efforts and reshaped public library services.  Source Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday afternoon, Bend-La Pine Schools gave Loren Renfroe from Sky View Middle School the Educator of the Year award after two years at the school, with district leaders praising her for mixing hard work with care — and MidOregon Credit Union presenting a $500 check at the event.  KTVZ
  • Central Oregon Community College said that if the state passes a 5% cut in higher education funding next year, the college will lose about $1.5 million and may see fewer students and delayed projects as early as April — it is preparing its 2026-27 budget and asking local representatives for support.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Food banks in Central Oregon worked to restock stocks after SNAP benefits resumed last week + rising need strained supplies as Sen. Ron Wyden attended a NeighborImpact roundtable and donated food. Local children from Skylark Children's Academy collected over 800 donations during their Fill the Mayflower drive + efforts helped support families preparing for the holidays.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Deschutes County will begin road construction on November 23 that includes electrical work at the South Century Drive—Huntington Road intersection with an all-way stop and a pause on November 27 and 28, paving on Northwest Way in Redmond, concrete and utility work on US‑97 in Terrebonne, and forest thinning on China Hat Road and FS Road 1815 while Cascade Lakes Highway and Paulina Lake Road remain closed for winter until snow is cleared. Drivers will face delays and must follow signed detour routes during work hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.  County of Deschutes

  • Oregon high school football semifinals are on today as Gervais plays Cascade Christian at Cottage Grove High School at 4:30 p.m. and Burns meets Banks at Summit High School in Bend at 2:30 p.m.—Gervais, led by Johnny Mariano, and Burns, led by Jack Wright, aim for key wins.  The Oregonian
  • Mt. Bachelor postponed the ski season opening because the base is one inch when a 24-inch base is needed—officials say upcoming storms and snow machines may build the needed base—and the Winter Kickoff Party at Deschutes Brewery Tasting Room remains scheduled for Friday.  Central Oregon Daily
