- ➤ City leaders toured several grant recipients from the Bend Sustainability Fund to see how over $3.3 million in lodging taxes has improved local projects (including a river access site and a historic building relocation). Applications open today and will run through January 16 as Visit Bend seeks shovel-ready projects that will last 10 years or more. KTVZ
- ➤ Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity will open its new Redmond ReStore at 2744 NW 7th Street on November 20 at 10:00 a.m. in partnership with the Redmond Chamber of Commerce, and the event will include a ribbon cutting + guided tours of the facility. KTVZ

- ➤ Bamboo Sushi announced its 11th location, the first in Bend, will open this winter—its early January start depends on construction progress and staff scheduling. The downtown restaurant at 125 NW Oregon Ave will serve a sustainable menu with sushi, gluten-free dishes and non-sushi options. Bend Bulletin
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bend-La Pine Schools will host the 2025 Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Friday, November 14 at 9:15 a.m. at La Pine Parks & Recreation District Gymnasium—inviting La Pine Elementary and Rosland Elementary students, their families, and community members to honor Ruby Bridges’ courage with a commemorative celebration and curricular field trip. - ➤ Staff members and supporters gathered outside Central Oregon Community College on Wednesday and demanded higher wages and better financial security amid ongoing contract negotiations with the Oregon Education Association. Union representatives reported that many staff experienced food insecurity and a lack of emergency savings—while the college said it remained committed to honest talks. KTVZ
- ➤ Central Oregon Community College may lose up to $1.5M in state funding if a 5% budget cut plan is implemented, which could reduce courses and student services at its Bend, Redmond, Madras, and Prineville campuses. - ➤ Bend-based Breedlove Guitars donated 75 guitars to Bend-La Pine Schools for middle and high school band classes and will present the instruments today at 7 p.m. in the Mountain View High School band room — co-owners Pete Mroz and Shannon Pollard support the donation through a community partnership facilitated by Economic Development for Central Oregon. - ➤ Noelle Buettner, 31, is finishing the last of her associate courses in early childhood education with help from a Grow Your Own grant—$381,011 in funding over two years that eases financial stress for local students and supports a future in public school teaching. - ➤ Parking issues are growing along Deschutes Market Road near Pine Nursery Park as drivers continue to ignore no-parking signs — police and Bend Park and Rec say they will begin by educating drivers and then issue fines if warnings are not heeded. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Bend city and business leaders are planning to convert the Mirror Pond Lot parking area near the Deschutes River into a plaza for concerts, farmers markets and events; construction will start as early as next fall or in spring 2027— the space will serve as a parking lot on normal days and host events only with a permit. - ➤ A Bend smoke shop sold vape pens marketed as magic mushroom products even though testing by Rose City Labs showed they did not contain true psilocybin and instead carried synthetic compounds that could harm users — raising concerns among licensed psilocybin service centers.
