- ➤ Kelly Watkins, a Bend relief nursery worker, launched the Bend Table website after a one-week delay in SNAP benefits to help families quickly find local food sources. She said she will expand the website across Central Oregon now that benefits were restored last Friday. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Three Rivers School in Sunriver held its 10th Veterans Day assembly on Friday—veterans received handmade cards, songs, and a free breakfast—and students performed to honor their service. A parade honoring veterans will take place in Bend at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Central Oregon Daily
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory unveiled a new solar telescope with a calcium filter that shows the sun’s chromosphere—science interpreter Alex Yager explained it reveals hydrogen clouds above the sun. The center is also selling tickets for a seminar on the cosmic distance ladder set for November 20th from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. KTVZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Deschutes County’s updated outdoor lighting rules will take effect Dec. 23 for all new installations in unincorporated areas and give owners until December 2028 to adjust existing fixtures (approved after public hearings) (designed to reduce light pollution and protect the night sky). County of Deschutes
- ➤ Deschutes County will start work next week, as crews trench and grade at the South Century Drive—Huntington Road intersection in La Pine and clean up the La Pine Business Park area. Other projects by Redmond, ODOT and the USFS will close lanes and force detours on Northwest Way, U.S. 97 and China Hat Road—FS Road 1815, so drivers should plan ahead. County of Deschutes

- ➤ October's home sales report shows that Bend homes took 66 days to sell, the longest since the pandemic began in March 2020. The report also states that sales dropped by 16 to 162, the median price increased by $63,000 to $778,000, building permits rose to 56, and the housing inventory fell slightly. KTVZ
