  • KTVZ celebrated 48 years of serving Central Oregon on November 5th. The station began in 1977 and remains a strong part of the community—its commitment to local news continues through decades of change.  KTVZ
  • On Halloween Day, Family Kitchen in Bend served a busy lunch with two dozen diners and many volunteers as rising food costs and SNAP funding uncertainty drove increased demand — the nonprofit now provides over 13,000 meals monthly at its Bend, Redmond, and Sisters locations. Executive director Olivia Parker said many locals rely on the kitchen to save money and avoid eviction amid the tough economic conditions.  Source Weekly
  • Today, Bend Park and Recreation District opened Manzanita Ridge Park along Mount Hood Drive in northwest Bend. The 3.5-acre park features a playground, picnic spots, and trails that link to nearby Shevlin Park and Discovery Park — offering a new space for families.  Central Oregon Daily
  • With SNAP payments delayed for many Oregonians, Sparrow Bakery in Bend is offering a free croissant and coffee to anyone with a SNAP card—hoping to ease hardships as residents await benefits.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Bend businesses have organized the winter clothes drive Share the Warmth to collect coats, hats, waterproof gloves, boots, wool socks, snow pants, and long underwear through December 19 — donations will go to Bethlehem Inn and Central Oregon Veterans Outreach — with items accepted at several local drop-off spots.  Bend Bulletin

CRIME NEWS

  • The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that Jezrah Tracy, a 29-year-old woman reported missing since November 1 near Woodchip Lane, was located in La Pine—she is in good health—and is no longer considered missing.  KTVZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Oscar-winning Marvel star Brie Larson is coming to Bend this Sunday for a four-course dinner at Hawkeye and Huckleberry Lounge as part of her 'Party People' cookbook tour—tickets include a signed cookbook, cocktail, dinner, meet and greet, and more. The event starts at 6 p.m. and costs $200 per person plus a 20% gratuity.  Central Oregon Daily
  • El Khat (a Tel Aviv-by-way-of-Berlin trio playing raw, percussive rock with homemade instruments) will perform at Silver Moon Brewing in Bend on Tuesday, November 11 (doors open at 6 p.m.) for a 7 p.m. show costing $18.81.  Bend Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Oregon Community College nearly finished its expansion at the Madras campus—classes will start in January for students in healthcare and child care programs. The college will begin an $8 million expansion of its manufacturing center at the Redmond campus next spring to add 13,000 square feet for busy machining and welding classes.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Visitors to the Metolius Preserve's Larch Trail Loop can enjoy a 2.8-mile hike to view vivid yellow Western larch trees and clear trail signage, though limited parking at the North Trailhead may affect access—managed by the Deschutes Land Trust.  Bend Bulletin
  • The High Desert Museum announced Wednesday its new Schnitzer Prize of the West, which will give $50,000 each year to honor innovative work addressing environmental challenges in the American West. Nominations remain open through January 1 and selected nominees will submit formal applications in early 2026—winners will be announced in spring with an award ceremony in Portland.  KTVZ
  • On Wednesday, Deschutes National Forest firefighters conducted planned pile burning operations 10 miles northwest of Bend and near Wickiup Estates — actions meant to manage leftover vegetation from forest work. Officials advised residents to keep doors and windows closed during early morning and overnight — precautions as ignitions may continue if conditions remain favorable.  KTVZ
