- ➤ The Bend Park and Recreation District is launching a public perception survey this week to gather feedback on park and trail use, safety and inclusivity in Bend—starting Monday, randomly selected community members will receive a call, postcard or text message to complete the 15-minute anonymous survey. - ➤ Book lovers across Central Oregon will gather at Downtown Bend Library on December 6 to learn the 2026 A Novel Idea read selections for adults/teens and young readers. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the titles unveiled at 6:30 p.m., and guests can enjoy trivia and snacks (a process that narrowed 30 titles to the top five). KTVZ

- ➤ The Lemon Tree restaurant in Bend was put up for sale Tuesday after its owners said it was time for a new chapter—customers will see the same breakfast and lunch service while a new owner is found. The restaurant is asking $500,000, earns $1.52 million annually, and operates in a leased space on NW Franklin until 2030. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Western Metrology is moving its precision measurement and calibration operations from Wilsonville to La Pine—where a new facility nearing completion will offer expanded space and upgraded equipment, and local officials say the move will bring new tech and manufacturing roles to the area later this year. - ➤ Local Caldera student Levi Waters built the ClimbGrade app using AI to scan rock climbing routes and rate difficulty based on a climber’s wingspan, height, and weight—he plans to test the app thoroughly before its launch and received $700 from the Bend Venture Conference to improve its model. - ➤ Jael Cruikshank of Bend was named vice president for the Western region at the National FFA Convention on November 4 in Indianapolis—where over 73,000 people attended—and she said her goal was to help all students by representing Oregon. She is a student at Oklahoma State University studying agricultural business and plans to work with her advisors to support FFA members. Bend Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oregon’s Head Start programs, which serve nearly 12,000 children, will stay open at least through the end of the year thanks to a temporary funding deal from the Department of Early Learning and Care—state leaders will meet in Salem soon to set further guidelines. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ The Cascades Lakes Highway and Paulina Lake Road will close for the winter season at 8 a.m. on November 18 as the Deschutes County Road Department prepares for heavy snowfall and costly snow and ice maintenance. The closures affect the highway stretch from Dutchman Sno-Park to the Deschutes Bridge and the Paulina Road gate at 10-Mile Sno-Park, and drivers are advised to monitor weather conditions and carry chains if needed. - ➤ Deschutes County is inviting K-12 students to hand render designs for an 'I Voted' sticker to honor the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and celebrate the right to vote in 2026—elementary winners will be featured in the May Primary Election and middle-high winners will appear in November's General Election.
