- ➤ Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend announced Michael Baker as its new CEO and he will start on November 3 — he has worked with the Club since 1988. Baker will join community supporters at the Flannel & Frost fundraiser on November 15 to connect with attendees and share his vision. KTVZ
- ➤ Deschutes County Search and Rescue volunteers rescued an injured snowboarder at Mt. Bachelor on Sunday as fall gave way to winter weather, and a windstorm forced Pine Tavern to close on Friday after power outages and tree damage. - ➤ The annual Bend Witches Paddle returns this Friday (Halloween) along the Deschutes River to raise money and collect donations for MountainStar Relief Nursery that supports local children and families. - ➤ Deschutes County rescuers warned backcountry skiers and snowboarders to be careful after a 26-year-old snowboarder was seriously injured on The Cone on Mount Bachelor due to thin, early-season snow—rescue teams took two hours and urged visitors to check conditions before venturing out. KTVZ

- ➤ Bar Rio in downtown Bend will convert into a private event space called the Rio Room by the end of October—diners will no longer enjoy walk-in service while its Latin and Mediterranean menus remain available at Shimshon at The Grove Market Hall and the Barrio food truck at Mid Town Yacht Club. - ➤ Central Oregon Community College will host a Turkey Trot fun run at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 15 on the Bend campus track, charging $15 for preregistered participants and $20 on race day — while a free Toddler Trot for young children takes place at 10 a.m. with day-of registration starting at 9:30 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the COCC Foundation to support scholarships and college programs. - ➤ Snow began falling at Mt. Bachelor Friday night and 12 inches were measured by Saturday night into Sunday morning as snowfall continued through today; the resort is preparing for opening day on November 28. Staff are finishing mountain projects — visitors are advised to steer clear of construction zones. KTVZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oregon Parks and Recreation Department announced that Pilot Butte’s summit road will close to motorized vehicles at 8 p.m. Sunday, November 2 because winter weather makes driving unsafe. The gate will remain closed through winter to reopen mid-April 2026 — pedestrians and non-motorized users may still use the park. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Twin Sisters Creamery of Ferndale is recalling eight batches of cheese wheels made with raw milk — products that were distributed in Oregon and Washington — after two Washington residents and one Oregon resident reported E. coli infections.
