- ➤ Warmer temperatures melted the ice this morning — officials at Bend Pavilion said the rink will be delayed until cooler weather returns. They will set a new opening date once conditions improve. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ A Central Oregon nonprofit that helps over 4,000 people with disabilities lost a federal grant worth $12,500 a month in September and is forced to cut programs, reduce staff, and close locations in rural areas. It started a $30,000 fundraiser on Tuesday—hoping to secure new funding and support affected families. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ On November 1, the Bend Food Project will hold its fourth annual quilt sale at the Unitarian Fellowship of Central Oregon on Skyline Ranch Road in Bend from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — over 300 handmade quilts donated by more than 80 local quilters will be available for purchase — with proceeds benefiting children through the Kid’s Korner program as organizers hope to raise $38,000. - ➤ Bend native Tara Lohan will hold a discussion today at Roundabout Books and Cafe to talk about her new book Undammed which examines dam removals like the Colorado Street Dam that improved safety and fish migration — her event costs $5 or is free with a book purchase. - ➤ Maestro Michael Gesme will conduct his final Central Oregon Symphony Fall Concert at Mountain View High this weekend—marking the end of a 30-year career in Bend and featuring Tchaikovsky’s Concerto for Violin and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9. - ➤ The High Desert Museum won the Autry Public History Prize on October 17 for its exhibition Sensing Sasquatch, which explores Indigenous views on the cultural and spiritual meaning of Sasquatch in the High Desert — the award recognizes the museum's innovative blend of art and history. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The BLM's Prineville District will burn piles on nearly 100 acres near Eagle Crest west of Redmond next Monday to reduce wildfire risk. Crews will finish the burn in one or two days and will monitor the area as they work. KTVZ
- ➤ Deschutes Land Trust is restoring Priday Ranch near Madras after the Cram Fire burned 80 percent of the 5,000-acre preserve, focusing on reseeding and stopping invasive species to help the land recover with fuel reduction work. The project supports efforts to protect nearby areas from future wildfire risks. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Oregon’s wildfire season ended Friday with about 350,000 acres burned—greatly less than last year, but 200 homes and structures were lost near communities such as Sisters and The Dalles. More than 60% of the over 1,100 wildfires were human-caused, and state and federal teams worked quickly to contain nearly 94% of fires before they grew larger than 10 acres. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ ODOT crews will repave Highway 97 near Cooley Road and cause overnight lane closures north of Bend tonight and tomorrow, with delays from (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) as part of the road work. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ A new report by the Oregon Health Authority found that more than 1 in 5 students say their physical and mental health care needs are not met + 18-year-old co-author Alexis Zou and Crook County Middle School principal Marcus Hayes offered insights on the issue. KTVZ
