COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Central Oregon Disability Support Network laid off half its staff and closed its offices in Warm Springs, Chiloquin, Burns and Bend after losing a federal grant that provided $12,500 a month, reducing support for 4,300 families. Director Dianna Hansen received notice on Sept 6th at 6:38 p.m. and, after an unsuccessful appeal supported by local lawmakers+ she plans to launch a fundraiser on Oct 21st to raise $30,000 in 30 days to help maintain services through the end of 2025. - ➤ Central Oregon pumpkin picking is underway at Smith Rock Ranch in Terrebonne and Schilling’s Garden Market in Bend—where visitors enjoy rides, corn maze, and wine tastings until November 2nd. These fall events offer a mix of fun attractions and seasonal treats for the community. KTVZ

- ➤ Cuppa Yo, a Bend-born frozen yogurt brand, opened its new north side shop next to the new Costco on Friday—welcoming customers with its signature flavors and toppings—and now serves the community at 20789 NW Henry Ave, Suite 160. KTVZ
- ➤ Bend-based outdoor apparel company Blackstrap is opening a new 66,000 square-foot campus at the new midway development off Wilson and 9th—featuring offices, flexible workspaces, a coffee shop, and outdoor areas for employees and community use. Central Oregon Daily
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Think Wild has updated its elementary classroom lessons and field trips to help Central Oregon students learn about wildlife. The new hands-on programs match Bend-La Pine Schools' new ELA curriculum and Next Generation Science Standards—weekly and monthly sessions have begun in Jefferson and Crook counties. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ All Oregon Department of Forestry districts ended fire restrictions as of Friday, closing the fire season after firefighters managed 1,135 fires that burned 24,275 acres. Firefighters used aggressive initial attack methods to control 94% of fires on protected lands + local fire departments still need permits for some burning activities. KTVZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Deschutes County crews will work on road improvements from Oct. 19 to Oct. 25 at the S Century Drive/Huntington Road intersection, in the La Pine business park, and on Tumalo Road in Bend, where drivers should expect lane and shoulder closures between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Other agencies will do sewer, utility, concrete work in Redmond and on U.S. 97 in Terrebonne as well as forest thinning on China Hat Road—travelers should allow extra time for delays. - ➤ Audrey Sybesma from Sisters volleyball and Alex Toolan from Mountain View football were named Athletes of the Week for Oct.6—11 by Bulletin readers. Sybesma earned 14 kills in a 3—1 win over Creswell and 13 kills with three blocks in a 3—0 win over La Pine—while Toolan passed for 107 yards and two touchdowns in Mountain View’s 38—0 win over Caldera. - ➤ The Ridgeview Ravens defended home turf with a 42-20 win over Bend High as they built a 28-6 lead by halftime. Mountain View beat the Redmond Panthers 42-0, Caldera upset Hillboro 33-27, and Sisters and Madras ended with 18-14 and 56-26 scores respectively. Central Oregon Daily
