COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A family offered a $2,000 reward for any information on Cinnamon — a 24-year-old gelding that bolted during an early August trail ride near Benson Lake and is believed to be in the Mount Washington Wilderness. Volunteers and hikers are urged to report sightings as winter weather and closing access roads may limit his survival chances.  Bend Bulletin

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new Regional Business Alliance was formed yesterday to unite local business groups and economic organizations for a single voice on policy, infrastructure, and workforce issues. The alliance, which includes the Bend Chamber of Commerce and EDCO, aimed to boost housing, workforce development, and regional growth.  Bend Bulletin
  • After 27 years of service, Spa W closed unexpectedly earlier this month in Bend—leaving many customers with unused gift cards. A Redmond business, Lattanzi Spa, said it will honor the full value of the cards when clients call to make an appointment.  Bend Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two new shows will open Friday in Bend—'Once' will debut at the Greenhouse Cabaret as a musical inspired by its film roots. 'The Haunting of Hill House' will start at Cascades Theatre with a stage adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s mystery.  Bend Bulletin
  • The last Blockbuster in Bend will celebrate 40 years with a block party on Saturday, October 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features a movie costume contest, themed trivia, karaoke, a Delorian display plus local vendors like The Corndog Company and Kona Ice.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Karina Bonn and her partner and coach Jake Tavita will compete on October 18 at Caldera High School in Dancing with the Central Oregon Stars which benefits Sparrow Clubs—six duos and two teams will perform as tickets cost $25.  Central Oregon Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bend drivers are advised that starting Nov. 3, one-way traffic on Franklin Avenue between Fourth and Eighth will switch directions—eastbound will open and westbound will close for construction until early December. The city said local businesses and homes will keep access and proper signage will guide drivers, who should allow extra travel time through the work zone.  Central Oregon Daily
  • At 12:01 a.m. today—covering over 2.3 million acres—the Oregon Department of Forestry ended fire season and reminded landowners to burn yard debris safely.  Central Oregon Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, several Central Oregon high school football games test playoff hopes as teams battle for crucial wins, including the Ridgeview-Bend High game in Redmond at 7 p.m. Other key matchups set to affect postseason standings—pivotal contests taking place Friday and Saturday add urgency to the season.  Bend Bulletin
  • Kevin Perkey was appointed as the new executive director of the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation following an extensive board search and will assume full-time responsibilities by early November. A Bend resident with nonprofit leadership experience and local ties through his sons' MBSEF participation — strengths that are expected to boost the foundation's mission for youth development.  KTVZ
  • In August, The Bulletin asked five preseason questions about football, soccer, volleyball, and cross-country, and now answers show progress for teams including Bend High’s cross-country runners and Redmond’s boys soccer with a near-clinched playoff berth. Mountain View football has reset its winning streak while Sisters volleyball and second-season football coaches report similar improvements—marking clear steps toward playoff and state opportunities.  Bend Bulletin
  • Madras East Hills in Madras near Juniper Hill Park offers 14 miles of mountain biking trails and 6 miles of horseback riding trails built by local groups for freeride enthusiasts, and it allows e-bikes to help riders climb to the features—wood jumps, berms, and other man-made elements. The tracks attract riders from Bend and Portland and host the annual Bone Crusher XCO race each April.  Bend Bulletin
