- ➤ The Humane Society of Central Oregon and Deschutes County Sheriff's Office said they have no records to verify any ownership claims for the 46 poodles seized from an alleged puppy mill by Lorinda Maxwell—who now faces 49 counts of animal neglect. - ➤ Central Electric Cooperative said its customers will see an 8.5% rate increase on November bills after Bonneville Power’s cost hike took effect on October 1—further increases are planned in later phases. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Tom Myers and Ashley Erdely released two guidebooks for kids—Birds of the Pacific Northwest for Kids and Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest for Kids—on Tuesday; the books deliver easy-to-read science facts and engaging images and are available at local bookstores and online. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Central Oregon Community College received a $1.3 million grant from the Department of Education to support 140 low-income first-generation students each year with coaching, tutoring, and transfer guidance to four-year universities. The college is hiring staff and setting up a dedicated space—program duties will begin at the start of winter term pending congressional approval. Source Weekly
