  • Five growth stage finalists have been chosen to compete at the Bend Venture Conference from Oct.17-18 at the Tower Theatre—Airbuild, Bold Reuse, MarineSitu, Photon Marine, and Rapta were selected while the previous CarbonBright semi-finalist did not advance.  Bend Bulletin

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Central Oregon families are bracing for rising meat prices and shortages as the holiday season nears — a local meat company reported challenges that may drive up costs for Thanksgiving turkeys and Christmas roasts.  KTVZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pollinator Pathway Bend and local business Oregrown will plant a new pollinator garden with over 100 drought-tolerant native plants at the corner of Wall Street and Bond Street this weekend—community members can join the planting efforts starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler answered questions on the Greenwood Avenue Project and local concerns about loud, speeding cars—residents can still submit questions for her monthly segment.  KTVZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ten of the 12 Central Oregon high school football teams will play today at 7 p.m. as conference play heats up—Summit will try to keep its undefeated record alive at Bend High while other key matchups could affect playoff bids.  Bend Bulletin
  • On Sunday, the Oregon State Beavers will come to Bend to play Gonzaga in a doubleheader scrimmage at Vince Genna Stadium with first pitch at 12:30 p.m. The event also includes a one-hour kids camp from 9 to 10 a.m. led by the Elks and a 45-minute break between games as the team practices full innings for future tournaments.  Bend Bulletin
  • Summit junior Aiden Woods felt relieved when OSAA approved boys volleyball as a fully sanctioned high school sport starting in spring—this vote came after two years as an emerging activity and means teams will soon play official seasons and state tournaments. School districts will soon need to give the green light for teams to compete, marking a big step for the sport in Central Oregon.  Bend Bulletin
