COMMUNITY NEWS

  • KPOV is marking 20 years with an open house and fall fund drive this month; the open house runs on Sunday, Oct. 19, from noon to 3 at its 501 NW Bond Street studio—where visitors can meet DJs and tour the space. The fund drive runs from Oct. 17—25 with a goal of raising $50,000 to support daily operations.  Bend Bulletin
  • Hospice of Redmond is hosting its 42nd annual Festival of Trees on December 6 at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds — a free family event from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a ticketed gala featuring a gourmet dinner, live music, and auction — to raise funds for hospice care and bereavement programs.  Central Oregon Daily
  • The Meissner Nordic Ski Club announced a weekend shuttle that will start on December 1 to help move skiers from the crowded Virginia Meissner Sno-Park—aimed at easing traffic on Cascade Lakes Highway. The service will run three times a day at 7:30 a.m. with a fare of $5 and is partly funded by Visit Bend and the Deschutes Trails Coalition.  Bend Bulletin

  • Bend’s Tekka Tiger food truck brings a taste of Southeast Asia to local diners with a rotating menu featuring dishes like Indonesian nasi goreng and water spinach stir-fried in chili sambal. Owners Rashita and Kley Dhillon opened the truck on Oct. 3rd and source authentic ingredients from nearby cities to keep the flavors genuine — offering a culinary passport to Bend.  Bend Bulletin

CRIME NEWS

  • Brodsky, a licensed massage therapist in Bend, reported a surge in harassing sexual inquiries after her photo and business details were misused on adult websites—she filed a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center and is preparing cease-and-desist orders with her lawyer to stop the misuse.  Source Weekly

  • Oregon State University-Cascades will host a First Peoples Celebration in partnership with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at its campus in Bend—attendees can expect Native artist demonstrations, traditional regalia, and dancing that highlight Indigenous culture.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Experts urged Oregon lawmakers to strengthen the state's climate policies after the federal government rolled back clean energy actions that had cut tax credits and eliminated funding—moves that are raising concerns about increased emissions and potential legal challenges for the state.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, a new Oregon bill requires insurers to explain why premium rates increase at policy renewal—Jillian Fortner will break down the law on KTVZ News at Five.  KTVZ
  • Deschutes County invites residents to apply for an open role on its Budget Committee with applications accepted through Oct. 27; eligible candidates must be registered voters available for meetings and will serve a three-year term starting Jan. 1, 2026 — a role that reviews budgets, tax rates, and resource allocation.  County of Deschutes

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Oregon Division of Financial Regulation finalized 2026 health insurance rates and warned that if ACA tax subsidies—expiring Dec. 31—are not reauthorized, premiums for individual plans will rise by up to 400% for about 126,000 policyholders. The announcement comes after rate change requests from five insurers helped set the new rates for both individual and small group markets.  Central Oregon Daily

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The 313-unit Jackstraw apartment complex near the Box Factory in Bend finished two-and-a-half years of construction and will have tenants moving in later this week, featuring a new living street called Lava Pass—designed for pedestrians, bicycles, and cars. A Fall Fest grand opening is scheduled for Oct. 25 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. as the project adds new retail spaces, a parking garage, and public art to the neighborhood.  Bend Bulletin
