- ➤ Bend YIMBY held the 'Remembering Our Neighbors' event at Bevel Brewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday—honoring residents priced out by rising housing costs and urging community discussion on boosting supply and policy changes so locals can stay in Bend. KTVZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Producer Austin Herbaugh hiked South Sister on Saturday — capturing images that show snowy early fall conditions on the mountain. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ After over a century away, a beaver family began building dams on the south fork of the Crooked River as part of a habitat restoration project led by the Bend-based Oregon Natural Desert Association — the project keeps cattle out and plants new vegetation to boost water quality. Officials say the success of this effort may lead to more breeding beaver families returning to the area. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ The City Club of Central Oregon will host a forum called 'The High Desert Goes Low Impact' on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Central Oregon Community College’s Coats Campus Center in Bend. The event will talk about local ways to ease climate change by using green building and smart planning — with local experts giving advice. Bend Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On October 6th, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Project Veritas' challenge to an Oregon law that bans unannounced audio recordings during in-person talks—this decision supports a January ruling by the 9th Circuit Court and keeps the law in place. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Local governments, park districts, tribal governments and other public land managers can apply for federal grants to improve and build trails; interested applicants must submit a letter of intent by Oct. 15 and commit to a 20% match — volunteer labor or donations may count. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Governor Tina Kotek signed an executive order (Executive Order 25-25) that directs state agencies to fast-track permits for wind and solar projects (developers must start construction by July 4, 2026 to qualify for federal clean energy tax credits) so Oregon can secure federal benefits before the credits expire. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon School Activities Association voted in Wilsonville on October 6 to approve boys volleyball as a high school sport beginning in spring 2026; 68 teams from more than 70 schools had played it last spring when it was still new. This approval marks the first time a new sanctioned sport has been added since girls wrestling in 2023. Bend Bulletin
