BUSINESS NEWS

  • Steve and Cheri Helt are opening a New York-style deli in the historic Old Mill District before Thanksgiving. Their restaurant, Stacks, will serve in-house cured meats like pastrami and turkey—along with views of the Deschutes River and Cascade Mountains.  Bend Bulletin

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Pacific Power announced it will build a new substation in north Redmond near the police station and upgrade more than a dozen smaller stations across Central Oregon to meet rising electricity demand. A new substation in Bend is planned for service in late 2027, while the Redmond project will add 33 megavolts for roughly 30,000 homes when online by early 2028 — a crucial step for the region's growth.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fall colors in Deschutes, Jefferson and Union counties are predicted to peak during Sept. 22nd–28th, with local areas including Bend set to display bright, changing leaves—offering a perfect time for autumn drives as nearby counties gradually catch up next week.  The Oregonian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction began Monday on a new single-lane roundabout at Butler Market Road and Wells Acres Road in northeast Bend—westbound drivers now detour along Brinson to Boyd Acres Road as the city improves safety for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers. Phase One is set to finish by the end of October with further sidewalk and bike enhancements to follow.  Central Oregon Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Safeway and Albertsons pharmacies in Oregon and Washington are now offering the updated 2025—2026 COVID-19 vaccines for patients age 7 and older—customers receive a coupon for up to $20 off their next grocery purchase. The pharmacies also offer at-home flu and COVID-19 test kits and allow walk-in visits or scheduled appointments during extended hours.  KTVZ
