- ➤ The Downtown Bend Business Association is asking local volunteers to join one of four committees for design, promotion, organization and economic vitality to help keep downtown thriving—one-time volunteers can also work on special events and beautification projects. KTVZ
- ➤ Honor Flight of Central Oregon invites community members to honor local veterans who will travel to Washington, D.C. from September 17–20 — the trip starts at Redmond Airport on September 17 with Alaska Airlines and ends at Ridgeview High School on September 20 with a welcome celebration and ceremony. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Late Sunday morning, crews responded after Deschutes County 911 received reports of an RV fire in the Juniper Ridge TSSA near Wiley Circle and Highway 97, and firefighters from several agencies quickly contained the flames that engulfed a motorhome and spread to nearby vegetation—two residents and a dog were displaced while one cat remains missing. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A section of Bond Street is closed because crews are expanding the Deschutes County courthouse—northbound drivers follow detour signs on Greenwood and Wall Street. The closure began last Friday morning and will remain in place through tonight. KTVZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ This week, more than 700 cancer survivors, patients, and advocates from Bend and across many regions will travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with lawmakers and urge Congress to protect and boost federal funding for cancer research and prevention — Oregon’s delegation is set to join the discussions before the September 30 deadline. - ➤ Over the weekend, river surfers gathered in Bend for SURFEST at McKay Park where athletes competed for more than $10,000 in prizes while live music and local vendors entertained the riverfront crowd—organizers raised funds for COSTA and the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance. Central Oregon Daily
