The Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Association hosted its 29th annual open house yesterday at 21520 Modoc Lane, welcoming 3,000 visitors to view 20+ engines spread over 1.5 miles of outdoor track with food vendors.
The event highlighted members' work improving long-standing tracks for future generations.
Discovery West hosted its second annual PorchFest Saturday in northwest Bend from 4 to 9 p.m., featuring six Oregon bands, seven food vendors, interactive booths and an open house showcasing ten new homes from local builders (Discovery West Builders Guild).
Nearly 100 volunteers gathered at St. Francis Church in Bend on Saturday to build 30 beds for children in need.
Each bed with a new mattress, bedding and pillow will be delivered to children across Central Oregon.

OSU Extension experts say fall is a good time to revive lawns that went dormant over the summer.
They recommend proper renovation through careful watering, fertilizing, and mowing practices in Oregon gardens (remember not to remove more than one-third of the grass height).
