EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bend’s Education Center will celebrate its 100th year on Saturday, September 27th from 1pm to 4pm as it invites past students, staff, and neighbors to view historic photos, artifacts and live music. Organizers ask the community to share memories to honor the building’s legacy. KTVZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portland General Electric and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs will lower Lake Billy Chinook's water by 2 to 3 feet over the next few weeks to repair Round Butte Dam—dock and boat owners are advised to repair or move shoreline structures early. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Despite heavy rain in August and early September, Central Oregon remains in drought with 16% of Deschutes, all of Jefferson, and 19% of Crook in drought—meteorologist Cole Evans noted that Bend received 1.5 inches in August compared to its 0.35-inch average, and a flash flood warning was issued as more rain was forecast. Local measures and low water demand keep reservoir levels higher despite the drought conditions. Bend Bulletin
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ CVS Pharmacy reversed its plan to offer updated COVID-19 vaccines without a prescription after reviewing new guidance; patients must now walk in to receive their vaccination with a valid prescription. The change follows state board requirements while officials await further details from the federal Advisory Committee meeting September 18—19. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Megan Sinclair sat down with Bethany Kuschel and Caroline Suiter of the Public Health Suicide Prevention Program on September 10 to discuss available local resources for Suicide Prevention Month— they provided information to help guide community members in need. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Bend’s burger guy, Josh Cordell, celebrated the third anniversary of Burger Friday last week by dining with his family at Sandos and Smash— their favorite spot from the past year and sharing a video online. - ➤ Athletes continue to compete in the 14-day Cascades Futurity at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center where cowboys and riders work together to separate cows from herds.
