- ➤ Oregon Adaptive Sports hosted adaptive bike rides at Pine Nursery Park today where riders with disabilities tested different bikes under rainy skies, and events will continue through Sept. 24 with Saturday morning rides at 9 a.m. The group will expand winter programming from December through mid-April and will gain bike storage in a building provided by the Bend Park & Recreation District next year—helping local riders stay active. - ➤ Three Central Oregon products are finalists in the Coolest Thing Made in Oregon contest — Deschutes Brewery’s Black Butte Porter and Kawak Aviation Technologies’ Cascade Helicopter Firefighting Bucket from Bend and Keith Manufacturing’s Walking Floor Truck Unloading System from Madras are in the running. Voting is open until Sept. 22 when the field will narrow to eight finalists. Central Oregon Daily

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Deputies seized nearly 50 animals from a suspected puppy mill on Elk Lane east of Bend and arrested Lorinda Maxwell, 62, on 49 felony counts of animal neglect — many of the animals were found in filthy conditions and in need of medical care. Central Oregon Daily
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Oregon Department of Forestry said that two large fires are burning on protected land while eight more burn statewide, and 945 fires have burned on protected land with another 2,464 statewide this year. The department warned residents to follow local fire restrictions—helping to reduce human-caused ignitions until soaking fall rains return. KTVZ

- ➤ Mt. Bachelor is gearing up for the 2025-26 season with a planned November 28 opening and will start upgrading the Northwest lift in April 2026 to improve access to expert terrain. The resort is also adding new passholder perks — including a free pass for kids 12 and under — along with complimentary après activities for families. KTVZ
