- ➤ The Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club held its 28th annual open house on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 21520 Modoc Lane in Bend, offering indoor displays, miniature train rides and outdoor layouts with free admission. KTVZ
- ➤ Brightside Animal Center invites locals to view rescued puppies after the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office saved them from neglect last month, and the shelter will host Brighter Futures Benefit Night at Juniper Golf Course on September 19th – tickets cost $40. KTVZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Downtown Bend Library will host a Community Conversations event on September 10 — it will discuss the benefits of degrees, trades and practical career paths with neighbors, with registration required and a light supper provided; the event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. KTVZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On September 7, Central Oregon saw heavy lightning, strong winds, and rain but wildfire risk stayed high because grass, brush, and timber remained very dry. Fire officials responded to 76 incidents this month and enforced Stage 1 fire restrictions—helping protect local communities. KTVZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bend Police are now using Live911 — a new software that streams 911 calls live to officers so they can get to emergencies faster. The system, used by about 200 agencies, helped save a life during a domestic dispute and gives officers real-time details about ongoing incidents. KTVZ
