- ➤ SHOW US YER CANS held a benefit concert Saturday in Bend and raised funds and nearly 500 lbs of food for Shepherd’s House, which helps people experiencing homelessness in Central Oregon — the event featured live music, a classic car show at Boneyard Pub, and multiple venue shows that continued into the evening. - ➤ The Central Oregon Tool Library had its grand opening on Friday at the Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity Restore and now lends a wide range of tools to help with home projects, repairs, and creative endeavors. Membership fees are based on income but everyone is welcome and the library is run by volunteers—every dollar goes towards expanding its collection. KTVZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Deschutes Historical Museum held its first Legacy Business Reception Saturday to honor local Bend and Redmond businesses that have operated for 50, 75, or over 100 years and to mark the county historical society’s 50th anniversary—business owners shared displays with photos, timelines, and memorabilia while guests enjoyed root beer floats and strawberry shortcake. Organizers hope the event will become a regular way to preserve local history. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Bend is hosting an open house for Aune Safety and Connectivity on September 10—4:00 to 6:00 p.m.—at Campfire Hotel or online through September 24, where residents will help shape plans to improve travel along Aune Street and Third Street in the Core Area. KTVZ
- ➤ The Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center is planning an expansion that could boost its size to 460 acres if a land swap with state lands goes through—funding and moving nearby homeless camps remain key challenges. A new director will soon take charge to manage the growing schedule of large events and ensure that aging facilities receive needed upkeep. Bend Bulletin
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, dozens of people gathered at Alpenglow Park in Bend for the Out of the Darkness Walk hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to honor loved ones and raise suicide awareness. The event featured a bead ceremony where each strand symbolized a personal loss + funds raised support prevention research, education, advocacy and survivor programs. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ On Saturday, September 6, 2025, junior Maddie Carney and senior Mason Morical won the season-opening Caldera Wolfpack 5K at Big Sky Park on a challenging 5,000-meter course, and Summit clinched the girls and boys team titles.
