COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Great Drake Park Duck Race will take place Sunday as thousands of rubber ducks race down the Deschutes River to raise funds with $18,500 in prizes for local nonprofits. Scattered thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds up to 50 mph have prompted a red flag warning until 11 p.m.—outdoor burning is not advised.  Central Oregon Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Deschutes County and local agencies will work on multiple road projects from Sept. 7 to Sept. 13, including asphalt paving on Swalley Road that may cause single-lane closures & delays up to 20 minutes, sewer utility work closing NW Pershall Way starting Sept. 8, roundabout construction affecting Skyliners Road & Skyline Ranch Road, underground utility work on 11th Street & closures on C Avenue, and utility work on Tumalo Reservoir Road that will detour northbound traffic. Crews will also close China Hat Road & FS Road 1815 for forest thinning until further notice.  County of Deschutes
  • Bend is hosting an open house on Sept. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Campfire Hotel Outpost meeting space for public input on the Aune Safety and Connectivity Project — aimed at making travel safer between east Bend and the old industrial area near the Crux Fermentation Project. Officials say final designs will be ready next year and construction will start in 2027 with improvements to intersections, sidewalks, and bike safety features.  Bend Bulletin
  • Bend Municipal Airport's new air traffic control tower is nearly finished and will stand about 100 feet tall plus become the tallest building in Central Oregon to help improve safety and efficiency at the busy airport with more than 140,000 takeoffs and landings each year.  KTVZ
  • Now that school is back in session, Bend PD warns drivers that school buses with flashing red or amber lights and stop sign arms are on the roads to pick up or drop off students — motorists must stop for these buses in all lanes unless on a divided highway with an unpaved median.  KTVZ
