CRIME NEWS

  • Bend police are seeking potential additional victims in a child sexual abuse case involving 27-year-old Connor Duhn, who allegedly broke his release agreement by contacting a teenage boy online—authorities ask anyone with information to call the non-emergency line.  KTVZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new research study led by Oregon State University and Celebrate Oregon Beer is testing if beer made with fresh hops tastes different from beer brewed with dry hops. Beer drinkers in Bend can sample a free 4-oz IPA at Deschutes Brewery starting Monday through the week while supplies last — the study will guide whether more brewers should use fresh hops in the future.  Bend Bulletin
  • Oregon State University-Cascades will host a First Peoples celebration on Oct. 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Bruckner Courtyard—focused on exploring and celebrating the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. The free event will include an opening ceremony led by tribal members, demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts, Native dancing, and Native American food from Twisted Teepee, supported by the Bend Cultural Tourism Fund.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire near a Crook County campground in the Ochoco Mountains prompted an air response and law enforcement to evacuate campers. The blaze was reported at 12:22 p.m. Tuesday and burned about 5 acres, and an air attack plane arrived within five minutes—fire officials confirmed.  KTVZ
  • Tribal youth joined the Tribal Stewards program on Tuesday in the Badlands Wilderness east of Bend to train in eco-restoration by studying old-growth juniper trees and collecting native seeds. They will present their program experience today to the Burns Paiute Tribal Council.  Central Oregon Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon House passed a big transportation funding bill on Sept. 1 that saved over 900 ODOT jobs and kept key road services going. The Senate votes today on a measure — it will cost drivers about $66 a year to help fund roads for counties, cities, and the state.  Source Weekly

HEALTH NEWS

  • Deschutes County in partnership with COSPA launches free community events this month to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of suicide prevention. The county will officially proclaim September today at 9 a.m. at the Deschutes Services Building in Bend — with additional events including a training on Sept.4, a walk on Sept.6, 988 Day on Sept.8, and a candlelight vigil on Sept.11.  County of Deschutes
