- ➤ At 5:30 a.m. Friday, August 29th, a shipping container outside Kercher Electric on NE Yale Avenue exploded when a leaking welding setup caused a buildup of flammable gases—damaging two businesses severely and affecting four others while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the cause. - ➤ A shipping container at Kercher Electric on NE Yale Ave exploded last Friday morning in northeast Bend—its leaking oxygen-acetylene welding setup and powered freezer caused a blast that damaged nearby businesses, homes, and vehicles on Bend Parkway. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Deschutes County’s Coordinated Homelessness Response Office has nearly spent three quarters of its $1 million award and still has $278,679 left to address local homelessness needs. Local leaders including Bend Councilor Megan Perkins and Redmond Councilor Kat Zwicker have discussed using the funds for regional homeless camp sweeps and eviction prevention programs—efforts that aim to strengthen the region’s approach amid shrinking state and federal support. - ➤ Developers broke ground on Britta Ridge, a 178-unit multifamily project at 20300 Halfway Road in Bend that will have three garden-style apartment buildings with studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units—featuring a resident lounge, open dog park, and outdoor gathering spaces.
