CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jeremy Lee Shaw, a Bend man, was sentenced on August 25th to 31 years in prison for sexually abusing a child under 12 and is already serving time for abusing three other minors—ensuring he will remain incarcerated for decades. KTVZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Legendary rock band Chicago will perform an evening show at Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend on Sunday—doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices begin at $54.50. Bend Bulletin
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, wildland fire crews made progress on the 22,000-acre Flat Fire as cooler weather and rain reduced evacuation levels—allowing some residents to return home. Crews now plan to watch for thunderstorms and warmer weather later this week that may worsen the fire. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Think Wild, a local wildlife hospital, is asking Bend residents to check the Flat Fire burn zone for injured animals and, if they find one injured or burned, loosely wrap it in cotton, place it in a quiet warm spot, and contact the hospital for help. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers will hold a special session on Aug. 29 to consider a plan that raises payroll, gas taxes, and registration fees to fund the Oregon Department of Transportation and stop over 900 job cuts. Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler urged fair sharing of funds to keep roads safe — without new funding, fewer repairs and service cuts will impact local roads — as residents raised concerns about higher taxes. - ➤ The Little Woody Beer, Cider & Whiskey Festival will feature tree-inspired drinks made with oak and botanicals to create earthy flavors, and will include new wine and non-alcoholic options.
