Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 24th of August.
Good morning, Bend.
🏘️ Community
Nearly 70 kids completed Bend Park and Recreation District’s annual Kids Triathlon Sunday at Juniper Swim and Fitness Center and Juniper Park (children ages 4 to 14 took part) as families cheered them on during this fun, noncompetitive event.
Local residents shared striking photos tonight that capture sunsets, landscapes and quiet moments under the night sky from across the High Desert (showcasing everyday charm).
Their contributions highlight the beauty and personal stories found right at home.
🎭 Culture
In 1926 on Mt. Hood, a 7-year-old boy got lost for four days until local searchers, including the Crag Rats, rescued him.
This August marks the centennial anniversary of that historic alpine rescue.
🌲 Environment
Fire officials reported on August 23 that the Henry, Coyote, and Shingle fires reached high containment and were placed in patrol status near Paulina Guard Station (road closures remained for safety).
Crews removed equipment and targeted hotspots, and cooler, gusty weather is forecast for today.
