- ➤ Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding Marshall Gifford— a 34-year-old local man last seen Monday, August 11 around 9 p.m. near Shoshone Road, who was taken by an unknown driver to a Washington courthouse and may have used public transportation the next day, but his whereabouts remain unknown. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, the musical 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' opens at Tower Theatre in Bend in a first-time project between Thoroughly Modern Productions and Caldera High School’s drama program—directed by David DaCosta and featuring local students and talent. The fully sung show, based on the biblical story of Joseph, will have performances at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on weekends. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Art in the High Desert returns this weekend at Riverbend Park along the banks of the Deschutes River featuring work by more than 130 juried artists from across the country and continuing a 17-year legacy that began in Bend. The show runs Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.—Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ After 25 years of using borrowed spaces, Heart of Oregon Corps is building its first dedicated youth workforce development campus in Redmond that will serve over 200 young people. The $7.3 million project will break ground on Sept. 10 — marking a new era for hands-on training in fields like construction, conservation and child care. Source Weekly

- ➤ Officials said that recent rain showers provided short-term relief from dry fuels that remain ready to catch fire as hotter temperatures return; public lands are under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions—barring open fires and chainsaw use from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.—while firefighters are poised to respond quickly to any new sparks. - ➤ K, a local resident at Lighthouse Navigation Center who faces mental health challenges and homelessness, says the current system has often sent people to jail instead of treatment. On Aug. 6, Gov. Kotek signed four bipartisan bills that lower the civil commitment standard, provide $65 million to expand treatment, and address staffing shortages — efforts meant to support those in need. - ➤ Mountain bikers rode the 18-mile Charlton Lake Loop that begins near Little Cultus Lake and winds through a high alpine forest, with riders taking on technical singletrack and yielding to equestrians & careful of steep descents.
