ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A woman died and six others were injured when a northbound car crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle on Highway 97 near Deschutes River Woods at 9:49 p.m. Thursday—forcing a three-hour road closure as investigators probed the crash. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bend is building two bicycle routes—one 7-mile east-west and one 8-mile north-south—as part of the Bend Bikeways project, with 35% of the work done and plans to finish most segments by the end of next year while some parts will be built later under larger transportation projects. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden met with fire officials on Saturday to review wildfire prevention in Central Oregon amid funding cuts and reduced fuel treatment efforts. He warned that although extra resources have helped limit burned acreage so far, delays may further weaken fire control — officials expect tougher conditions into October. Bend Bulletin
