- ➤ The Central Oregon Tool Library will open Friday, September 5th in the Bend ReStore parking lot to lend tools for DIY projects, home repairs, and gardening to all local residents. Tony Grzesik, Peter LoVerso and John Heylin created the nonprofit and partnered with Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity — the group will offer workshops and promote reuse. KTVZ
- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters Central Oregon launched its 30 Bigs in 30 Days campaign yesterday to recruit 30 male mentors for 75 boys on the waitlist who need help with school and community activities. The organization recently moved into a new east Bend campus that features a basketball court—an area for mentoring events and programs. Bend Bulletin
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Chevy Fire near Highway 97 in Madras ignited Saturday when construction equipment set dry grass and shrubs ablaze and led to a brief Level 3 evacuation as Jefferson County Fire and Emergency Medical Services quickly contained the quarter-acre blaze without injuries—while the Canal Fire near Redmond Airport is burning about 30 acres today and crews with engines, air support, and smokejumpers work to protect nearby areas with the cause still under investigation. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State data shows that school-based health centers across Oregon saw a 15% increase with 43,000 patients last school year as children received checkups, immunizations, reproductive health and acute care. In Bend, a new clinic at Mountain View High School opened to offer full-service care, and state funds of $65,000 per clinic help ease barriers to care — boosting access for students and community members — according to health officials.
