- ➤ La Pine Community Kitchen says more visitors are coming while food and monetary donations have dropped — leaving shelves nearly empty. The nonprofit is asking locals for perishable food or financial donations to keep providing meals and support. KTVZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Redmond Preschool is now enrolling infants and toddlers and will offer free preschool for eligible families under the state Preschool Promise grant, running Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The school has room for 38 students and will host an open house on August 16th from 9 to 11 a.m. — families can tour the facility and learn more about the program. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Central Oregon is in peak wildfire season as hot, dry weather raises the risk of human-caused fires. Officials urge residents to follow fire restrictions and be careful with outdoor activities that could start fires. Central Oregon Daily
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ With extreme heat expected in the next few days, the American Red Cross is urging everyone to drink water every 20 minutes and to seek cool indoor spots such as malls, libraries, or cooling centers. The agency also advises checking on neighbors—especially older adults, outdoor workers, and pets—to prevent serious heat illness. KTVZ
