- ➤ Bend Police alerted residents that scammers stole over $100,000 last month by posing as bank officials and using fake bank calls—bitcoin and Ubers to trick victims into cash withdrawals. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Today, the Sunriver Art Fair kicks off at the Village at Sunriver with over 80 juried artists on display and runs through Sunday; the Deschutes Historical Museum will host an Antique Fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that features vintage finds from local vendors—both events offer free admission. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Heart of Oregon Corps received a $100,000 gift from the Tykeson Family Foundation—matched to boost the contribution to $200,000—to support its plan for Central Oregon’s first youth workforce development campus and will break ground on September 10 as it works toward a $7.3 million goal; the campus is set to open in fall to serve over 225 youth each year. - ➤ The Deschutes National Forest staff will open Forest Service Road 370 today to provide access to Broken Top and Crater Ditch trailheads, though the rough road is recommended only for high-clearance vehicles—washouts in winter and spring have made travel challenging. Bend Bulletin
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Desert Sage Memory Care in Bend faces state restrictions after a 90-year-old resident, Doris Howard, was found unsupervised in a courtyard on July 14 when temperatures reached 93 degrees. The Oregon Department of Human Services now limits admissions to one new resident every seven days (with daily updates for the first three days) and requires 15-minute courtyard safety checks (restrictions will lift once safety standards are met). REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Housing Works opened College View Apartments on Wednesday, a 59‑unit affordable housing complex in west Bend funded by the Local Innovation and Fast Track Rental fund & partnered with Rooted Homes to plan 40 affordable homes, while residents began moving in by the end of the week. Two‑bedroom apartments are set at $1,025 a month to help keep housing costs low. Bend Bulletin
