- ➤ The Deschutes Public Library has urged active cardholders with cards issued or renewed before Jan. 21 to renew their library cards by Sept. 1 so they can continue using extra services + updated records will keep over 92,000 cards active. Bend Bulletin
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Search crews returned to the Deschutes River on Saturday using swift water teams, drones, divers and K-9 units to locate a man missing since a July 19 tubing accident near Dillon Falls—officials said reduced river flows from the Central Oregon Irrigation District improved conditions as over 40 personnel worked the area and asked the public to give them space. - ➤ Hayden Homes Amphitheater — located along the Deschutes River in the Old Mill District — will host 11 consecutive days of concerts from August 7 to August 17, featuring acts like Tedeschi Trucks Band, Lumineers, LCD Soundsystem, and Glass Animals. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Bend's Chris Carlberg, a local investment firm owner, went back to the set of Disney’s ‘Freakier Friday’ to play his old role as the drummer from a 2003 film after his wife encouraged him. The movie will open Thursday at Regal Old Mill and his return marks a full circle moment shared with his family—he said it felt like no time had passed. Bend Bulletin
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are battling the Stevens Fire burning about 6 miles northeast of Sisters today—resources include engines, a helicopter for bucket drops and a requested initial attack crew. Officials said the fire size is unknown and that crews had responded after smoke reports followed yesterday's lightning. KTVZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is on patrol at the fair and rodeo—engaging with attendees through a helpful booth—to answer questions and locate lost items. Deputies coordinate with partners—Redmond Police and Fire and an independent security firm—to quickly respond to any incident and keep the community safe. KTVZ
- ➤ Road construction has slowed travel in Bend as more than a dozen projects cause closures and delays using funds from a $190 million transportation bond approved in 2020 (projects include roundabouts, water and sewer pipe replacements, and street resurfacing). One roundabout on Bear Creek Road is expected to reopen by the end of October while the city will break ground on another roundabout mid-August. Bend Bulletin
