The Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo opened yesterday with a special America’s 250th tribute at 6 p.m. — a nod to local tradition — as KTVZ live coverage highlights rodeo, concerts and community events that continue through Sunday at the Fair and Expo Center in Redmond.
Bad Nerves with The Death Chat, 40 Feet Tall will perform at Volcanic Theatre Pub at 70 SW Century Drive in Bend on Monday at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. + tickets cost $32.43.
Jerry’s Middle Finger will perform the Days Between tribute at Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St. on Thursday, Aug.
6 at 8:30 p.m. with tickets from $17 to $37; the band honors Jerry Garcia’s side project by uniting fans from every generation.
Due to wildfire smoke, Oregon authorities have kept many recreational areas closed, including trails near Sisters, the John Day Fossil Monument, parts of the Willamette and Umatilla National Forests, and several sites in the Cascades — visitors are advised to check current conditions before heading out.
Firefighters are strengthening containment on several Central Oregon wildfires as improved weather has reduced smoke and slowed growth, but evacuations and road closures continue near key blazes — public meetings on active fire updates are held today in Prineville at 6 p.m. and livestreamed for the Bench Fire.
Since Redmond Police began photo enforcement on June 15, the 30-day warning period—resulting in 802 traffic citations across three camera sites—has allowed offenders to pay online, by mail or in person at the Deschutes County Justice Court.
The department is considering expanding the program.

PacificSource will exit the individual insurance market (coverage ends Dec.
31) and leave Central Oregon patients needing new plans for 2027 while providers face income loss. The insurer cites rising costs and inconsistent access as the reason for the change.
