- ➤ Lighthouse Navigation Center celebrated its three-year anniversary on Wednesday as residents, staff, volunteers, and community partners joined to reflect on its role in providing low-barrier care for those facing homelessness — the center has served nearly 950 daytime participants, over 480 overnight guests, and helped transition 70 residents into housing since it opened in 2021. - ➤ Volunteers in Bend, led by former mayor Steve Stenkamp, restored a historic sign on Century Drive that displays a painted beaver emblem and was cared for privately for nearly 30 years. The sign fell in a windstorm and local donations along with volunteer work helped return it to its place—preserving a quirky piece of local history. Bend Bulletin
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Three children—Dale, 2; Isabella, 1; and Ethan, 3—went missing from Bend on July 22 and are believed to be with their mother at a houseless camp along Hwy 97 as Oregon Department of Human Services seeks help to keep them safe. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Legislature failed in June to pass a bill that would have required utilities to cover federal income taxes on wildfire settlements, so survivors receiving awards after January 2026 must pay taxes when a current exemption expires this December. Lawmakers revised the proposal last minute by adding a wildfire safety certificate program—critics say this change led to the defeat of the tax relief measure. Bend Bulletin
