Good morning, Bend.

Wildfires continue to spread as the Oak Fire, which started Sunday near Redmond, threatens homes and prompts evacuation orders; firefighters use drops and hand crews to build containment amid hot, dry conditions.

A virtual meeting on the Akawa Butte Fire is scheduled for updates (7:00 p.m. Monday).

At the Sisters Rodeo Grounds, officials set up a command post as crews battle three wildfires sparked by lightning on July 15; the Pilot Fire burned 120 acres with 20% containment while the larger Akawa Butte (6,900 acres) and Brewer (17,900 acres) fires remain at 0% and crews arrive tomorrow.

Hikers can enjoy varied routes at the Duffy Lake Trailhead today.

Situated north of Santiam Junction near Sisters and just over an hour from Bend, the trail features shortcuts to Turpentine and Lava Lakes trails — parking is $5 and a Central Cascades Wilderness Permit is required.
