- ➤ The City of Bend and independent company Veo launched a bike-share program that introduces 300 Cosmo model e-bikes for public use for a fee—this initiative aims to offer sustainable travel for residents and visitors. KTVZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Multiple road projects are scheduled from July 20 to 26—Deschutes County, the City of Bend, ODOT and the US Forest Service will repair roads, build roundabouts and conduct utility and bridge work on routes in the La Pine area, on Knott Road, Tumalo Reservoir Road and at intersections on Skyliners and Deschutes Market Roads. Motorists will face lane closures, detours and up to 20-minute delays during work hours from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and should follow posted signs as work may change with weather. - ➤ Oregon lawmakers passed two bills on July 18th to support microgrids—small energy networks that work on their own during emergencies—for key community facilities like hospitals and schools. The new law directs the Public Utility Commission to set guidelines for these grids and lets utilities or consultants review interconnection requests while it now awaits Gov. Kotek's signature. - ➤ The City of Bend has launched a bike-share program with 300 black and teal pedal-assist e-bikes available via a mobile app and designated parking zones. Councilor Ariel Mendez said the service aims to reduce car trips and congestion—riders must park responsibly and report any issues to the city or Veo. KTVZ

- ➤ Mountain bikers now can ride the 14-mile Tumalo Ridge-Swede Ridge-South Fork loop with steep climbs, panoramic views and fast descents on snow-free trails west of Bend. The route features 1,500 feet of ascent and natural obstacles, so riders are advised to use caution on shared trails—bug repellent is also recommended. Bend Bulletin
