- ➤ Nearly 150 volunteers joined Saturday’s cleanup event at Mt. Bachelor and collected hundreds of pounds of trash from around the mountain to keep it clean. All volunteers received lunch—raffle entries and a lift ticket valid through October 5—to thank them for their efforts. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Bend Summer Festival kicked off Friday and runs through today downtown Bend— the event celebrates summer in Central Oregon with live music, performances, food, and a variety of free vendors. KTVZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Friends of the Children Central Oregon launched a summer leadership program for 12 and 13-year-olds to build leadership and job readiness skills—eight full-time slots have been filled with additional part-time roles available, and the program will run from mid-July through mid-August at the organization’s ranch and local community sites. - ➤ Nearly 4-year-old Charlotte De Sautel runs a mobile lemonade stand in Bend’s parks and near the river to earn money for a Disneyland trip while learning about money and persistence—her family helps her set up her stall during busy summer days. KTVZ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The inaugural Bend Dirt Fest held Saturday, July 12 in Bend drew over 120 competitors who raced in three events—a half-marathon trail run, a 54-mile gravel race, and a 36-mile mountain bike course through Deschutes National Forest.
