Today marks National Lineworker Appreciation Day — a day to honor local workers who keep Bend powered and connected, even under challenging conditions.
Pacific Power recently opened a training center in Central Oregon to support these essential workers.
The opening of the Hub Recreation Center in Redmond is delayed until at least September because construction is behind schedule.
The 56,000 sqft facility at SW 35th Street and Lava Avenue will offer a new pool, gym, basketball courts, and outdoor amenities to upgrade local recreation.
A Madras native now in Bend is stepping in after a carnival vendor dropped out of the Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo to offer bounce houses, waterslides, & a toddler-safe zone along with features for older kids and adults.
The fair runs July 22-25.
The Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo will return from July 29 to August 2 at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center.
Fair director Jeff Curtis outlined plans for the 2026 attractions.
Starting July 17, Deschutes Public Library branches in Central, La Pine, Redmond and Sisters will let cardholders check out free Oregon State Parks day-use parking passes from the Library of Things collection.
The permits, available for up to three weeks, are part of a statewide partnership with the State Library of Oregon and Oregon Parks and Recreation.
Bend-based Deschutes Brewery said Friday that its Costco partnership for the Kirkland Signature Helles Lager is ending, with production winding down this month & the beer set to leave shelves by fall.
The brewery thanked Costco and fans for their strong support.
A former Methodist church turned museum in Madras received a $20K state grant from Oregon Parks and Recreation to strip away vinyl siding and restore its original wood exterior, while Petersen Rock Garden between Bend and Redmond received $20K to replace its museum roof — both projects support local history.
Bend becomes the seventh city to host PNW Climate Week as energy experts gather from across the region; the week starts tomorrow with a hackathon at the Central Library and continues Monday with a wildfire resiliency hike at Pilot Butte (July 12–17).
ODOT crews will work Monday through Thursday nights starting next week to patch ruts on U.S. 97 (between Yew Ave and Evergreen Ave), U.S. 126, and U.S. 20.
Work begins in Redmond on July 13–16, moves to Bend on July 20, and continues on U.S. 20 through early August.
High Desert Special Olympics athletes are heading to Corvallis for the State Summer Games this weekend.

Mountain bikers who prefer less climbing can ride Bend's 28-mile singletrack starting at Wanoga and enjoying routes like Tiddlywinks & Tyler’s Traverse, with daily $10 shuttle options offered by Cog Wild and Cascades East Transit to access nearby sno-parks.
