ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A house fire in the 56000 block of Gina Lane spread to nearby homes and the forest on Monday evening, prompting a Level 2 BE SET evacuation alert for residents along local roads + fire crews quickly mobilized a task force and set up a temporary evacuation point at Three Rivers Elementary School. - ➤ OSU-Cascades announced Monday it is listing its only off-campus property, the Graduate & Research Center, for sale at $8.2 million as it consolidates operations onto its 128-acre campus on Chandler Avenue—proceeds will fund campus development and the relocation of classes, offices, and an early childhood learning center. - ➤ Crews battled the Sunrise Fire that burned about 30 acres in eastern Crook County on Monday near state Highway 380—smoke from the fire was seen from Hampton Butte. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect today from 2—11 p.m. as storms are expected to produce lightning. KTVZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, Gov. Tina Kotek announced that ODOT cut 932 positions after the Legislature did not pass a transportation funding bill, affecting maintenance crews and support staff. The agency warned that the layoffs will reduce essential services like pothole repairs and snow removal — factors that could slow down road responses this winter. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ At the 2025 USA Climbing Youth National Championships in Beaverton—from June 26 to July 2—Nathaniel Perullo of Bend Endurance Academy won the Male U19 Bouldering title and earned a spot on the U.S. Youth National Team for the Youth World Championships in Helsinki. Four other BEA athletes competed in different events and helped the academy secure its fourth national Youth Bouldering win since 2019. Source Weekly
- ➤ Oregon Adaptive Sports received a $60,000 grant from Travel Oregon on July 7 to expand its adaptive mountain biking program and launch an adaptive paddling program for people with disabilities.
