COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Corvette lovers gathered in Bend Saturday for the 4th Biennial Corvette Show-N-Shine at Lithia Motors Chevrolet—food trucks, a 50/50 raffle, and trophies were featured while $1,500 was raised to support a local mechanics scholarship. The club said Corvettes on the High Desert will be held next summer.  Central Oregon Daily
  • A surprise flash mob erupted at the intersection of Wall Street + Minnesota Avenue in Downtown Bend on June 28th, briefly stalling traffic with a three-minute dance and drawing honks from drivers while delighting nearby onlookers.  Central Oregon Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers worked along the Deschutes River Saturday to pull invasive weeds and pick up trash from the banks and water. Coordinated by the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council — nearly 300 people joined cleanup efforts at sites including Riverbend and Farewell Bend parks to protect the river and nearby green spaces.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum held a town hall today at Ridgeview High School in Redmond — she listened as community members voiced concerns on public lands, wildfire preparedness and education. The event marked the sixth of 10 meetings in her Give 'Em Hell Tour — her next stop is a telephone town hall on July 16 to reach more residents.  KTVZ
  • Gov. Tina Kotek said lawmakers may face a special session after the recent five-month session ended without passing a transportation funding package needed for the Oregon Department of Transportation. She said she will meet with her team today and expects every lawmaker to help solve the funding gap—emphasizing that the work is far from finished.  The Oregonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Campbell McKean, a recent Caldera High graduate and soon-to-be University of Texas swimmer, won national titles in the 50 meter breaststroke and the 100 meter breaststroke on June 26 after a strong performance at the nationals. He will join Team USA at the World Aquatic Championships in Singapore starting July 11—his wins keep his Olympic dreams for Los Angeles 2028 alive.  Bend Bulletin
