CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested a 17-year-old Bend resident who threatened a neighbor with a gun during an attempted break-in on Tuesday evening near NW Hunter Place; he was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. at his home on (NW Florida Avenue). Bend Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said online misinformation falsely claimed his officers were doing immigration enforcement — he clarified that detectives in unmarked vehicles in the Old Mill District were part of a community program and that officers assist in immigration cases only with a judge’s warrant. - ➤ This morning, Deschutes County Commissioners added an agenda item to discuss selecting an interim sheriff after Sheriff Kent van der Kamp announced he will resign on July 31—officials are addressing the controversy from his placement on the Brady list and a recall effort. All three commissioners previously called for his immediate resignation and will decide on his replacement before next year's election—further details are expected from their deliberations. KTVZ
- ➤ Street paving will begin on June 30 as part of Bend's annual street preservation program with crews set to improve 67 miles of road lanes at a cost of about $4.85 million. City workers will repave 16 miles, chipseal 28 miles and apply slurry treatments to 23 miles along busy streets—residential areas will see work during the day to reduce noise. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Oregon health officials confirmed the first measles case of 2025 amid a nationwide surge in outbreaks as nearly 90% of patients were unvaccinated or unsure of their status—experts urge residents to verify their immunity and get an MMR booster if necessary. The Oregonian
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ At the western end of Simpson Avenue near Mount Washington Drive, the RootedHomes project began building small homes priced at $240,000 for two-bedroom units and $280,000 for three-bedroom units, well below Bend’s median home price of $772,000. - ➤ Excavators began grading and removing juniper trees on June 19 at a 33-acre site near 15th Street and Wilson Avenue to start the Wildflower housing project, one of Bend's largest infill developments that will include 518 units and townhomes—developers will soon start blasting rock until February to prepare the site for construction.
