- ➤ Bend photographer Christian Murillo captured a striking glacier photo on Mt. Shuksan during a climbing expedition, and his image is now displayed at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in the Art and Climate exhibit — it tells the story of the Skagit River watershed and calls for urgent climate action. - ➤ For several weeks, residents near the airport have noticed a foul smell traced to the city’s water reclamation facility — crews are cleaning the tanks using lime to reduce the odor — and they expect the work to finish in two to four weeks. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, June 24th, Oregon lawmakers failed to reach a compromise on House Bill 3212—intended to regulate pharmacy benefit managers and help struggling retail pharmacies—and the bill died in committee. Pharmacists warned that patients may face longer waits and extra travel to fill prescriptions, especially in rural communities. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Sen. Anthony Broadman has proposed a tax on nicotine pouches to help pay for wildfire prevention programs—this amendment is expected to generate 14.3 million dollars over two years from extra sales revenue. The measure will be voted on in the Senate before the June 29 adjournment and is backed by local store owners. KTVZ
- ➤ Deschutes County Sheriff Kent van der Kamp will resign on July 31 after a recall campaign cited his alleged dishonesty and false testimony—recall organizers say the campaign remains active until his resignation is officially accepted. The Oregonian
- ➤ Senate Bill 926 is stalled in committee as lawmakers urge PacifiCorp to pay wildfire damage claims before the federal tax break ends this year — delays could force fire victims to pay tax on full settlement amounts.
