- ➤ Burgerville opened its new location on 3rd Street in Bend today + over 100 people lined up at the grand opening. The first 100 customers received a gift card worth 52 burgers + as part of the chain’s promotion. KTVZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A foul odor in northeast Bend is coming from the city’s water reclamation facility where crews are cleaning wastewater digesters for the first time in over 15 years—workers are using lime to control the smell and expect the cleanup to last another two to four weeks. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A group of Deschutes County community members has launched a recall effort against Sheriff Kent van der Kamp—citing allegations of dishonesty, abuse of authority and misconduct. Organizers plan to file the recall petition on Monday, July 7 and aim to collect 20,000 signatures in 90 days as calls for his resignation grow. KTVZ
- ➤ After a recall effort was announced, Sheriff Kent van der Kamp told the county commission he will resign effective July 31 amid intense public scrutiny for allegedly lying under oath and providing false documents about his education. The recall may still move forward after paperwork is filed on July 7—serving as a safeguard to remove him if he does not retire on his own. Bend Bulletin
