- ➤ The Pet Evacuation Team is running a large animal shelter at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds for over 100 animals—including horses, goats, chickens and more—that were displaced by the Alder Springs Fire. Volunteers check on the animals all day — and the group has received generous donations from the local community. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Tuesday morning, evacuees from the Alder Springs Fire returned to check on their homes and animals after leaving Crooked River Ranch amid rising fire activity and power and water issues. They are sheltering at Highland Baptist Church and Ranch Chapel while animal staging areas at Over The Edge Taphouse and Deschutes County Fairgrounds remain open. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Maya Barnard-Davidson of OSU-Cascades overcame a skiing accident brain injury on Mount Hood in December 2014 and graduated with a biology degree and chemistry minor on Sunday—she spent years studying part-time, recovering from a three-week coma and months of rehab, and now plans to rest and help on her parents' farm east of Bend. - ➤ Crooked River Ranch residents fled on Monday night as the Alder Springs Fire burned 2,500 acres with no containment—helicopters and air tankers battled the blaze while Gov. Tina Kotek invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act to protect homes. Bend Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oregon lawmakers moved closer to making the $101 billion public pension fund carbon neutral within 25 years after House Bill 2081 passed the Senate with bipartisan support; the bill requires a 60% reduction in harmful emissions by 2035 and reaching net-zero by 2050 — a key step pending the governor's signature — as it codifies the Treasury’s Net-Zero plan. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Oregon has one of the highest hepatitis C death rates in the nation with residents 2.7 times more likely to die from the disease than those in other states (data from April reports), according to state health officials. Officials are asking for more resources to expand peer support and telehealth services and to improve screening and treatment in vulnerable communities. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Killian Pacific secured long-term retail leases for Sisters Coffee and Drybar at Jackstraw, a 313-unit mixed-use project nearly complete in Bend. Residential pre-leasing will begin in July and move-in availability will start in October on a 4.7-acre site at Industrial Way and Lava Road — linking to the nearby Box Factory. KTVZ
- ➤ Jackstraw, a mixed-use development near the Box Factory, announced two long-term retail leases for Sisters Coffee Company — opening late this year or early next year — and Drybar, scheduled for early next year, adding 18,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. The 313-unit project is 80% complete, will begin pre-leasing in July and offer move-in in October with a shared plaza and validated parking for shoppers. Source Weekly
